Authorization and the Parent Center

  • Authorizing Your Child's Account

    1. Scan the QR code on the login sheet that has been sent home with your student.
    2. Confirm that you are the student's parent or guardian and click 'Give Permission and Accept.'

  • Sponsoring Your Child

    1. Click 'Donate Now!' and select the type of donation you want to make (either per reading amount, or fixed).
    2. Choose your donation amount from the options, or click 'Other' and enter a different amount.
    3. Enter your payment information (for a fixed donation) and click 'Confirm Donation'. After confirming your donation or pledge, you will be taken to the Parent Center.

  • Inviting Sponsors

    1. After you authorize your child's account you'll see your child's donation link. Share this link with potential Supporters by text message, email, WhatsApp, or social media.
    2. If you haven't already donated, enter your name and email to get access to the Parent Center.
    3. At the Parent Center, click 'Invite Followers' and enter the names and emails of close friends and family members to invite them to donate and follow your student's profile. Followers can see your child's profile, send them a fun message, and recommend books for them to read, and unlike Supporters, Followers have the option to make pledges based on how much your student reads, encouraging them to read even more!
    4. If your child has suggested other potential sponsors to invite, at the Parent Center you can choose to invite them as a Supporter or as a Follower, or to ignore the suggestion.

  • Using the Parent Center

    1. At the Parent Center, you can see the status of your Follower invitations. Click the orange button next to people you've invited to resend their invitations.
    2. If you notice that your Follower invitations are not getting accepted, click 'Forward Invites.' Select invitations to have those emails delivered to your email address. You can then forward the invitations to the appropriate contacts.
    3. If for any reason you decide that you'd like to cancel an invitation or rescind access to a Follower, find their name in the appropriate list and click "Cancel."
    4. If you lose your Parent Center link, log in to your child's account and click the 'Invite Sponsors' tab. At the bottom of the page, click the 'Send Reminder' button to have your Parent Center link resent to you.

Parent FAQs

How do I access the Parent Center?

When you authorize your child's account, either make a donation or choose "Access the Parent Center." Those options are available for 24 hours after authorizing the account. After that, clicking "Access the Parent Center" at the same web address will trigger a guided process where you get access to the Parent Center through an email initiated in the student's account.

How do I invite Followers?

Go to the Parent Center. Click 'Invite Followers' and enter the names and email addresses of everyone you want to invite, and ReadaFun will send invitations for you.

How do I sponsor my child?

You are prompted to sponsor your child after you authorize their account. There is also a button to donate at the Parent Center. On the donation page, select either per-reading amount or a fixed donation. Choose an amount, or click 'Other' and enter the desired amount. Enter your information, and click 'Confirm Donation' to make your donation. If you make a fixed donation, your credit card will be charged; if you have made a per-reading amount pledge, we will send you a reminder email at the end of the event to fulfill your pledge.

Why do I need to authorize my child's account?

Under COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), all websites that have accounts for children must get verifiable parental consent. We take pride in being COPPA compliant, which means that we need your authorization before any information about your child (like their name and reading information) is disclosed to any sponsors or used for fundraising.

What do Followers I invite see?

Followers you invite will receive an email asking for their support, with a link to a dedicated donation page. Upon donating, they will be able to see your child's profile, which shows your child's personal information, their reading logs, and their newsfeed. This is a really neat experience for family members and trusted friends, but make sure to only invite people you trust.

What information do Supporters see?

Supporters, who donate using the sharable donation link, will only see the school's name, your child's first name and last initial, and their Owlvatar.

Can I invite people on my own (i.e. not through the ReadaFun email system)?

Of course! You can invite Supporters by sharing your child's donation link, which is found in the Parent Center and in your child's account. There are also paper materials that ReadaFun provides through your school, which you can use to get sponsors offline. Complete and return the sponsor form to your school for your child to get credit for these donations.

How do I fulfill my donation?
